THE EXISTING PLAYGROUND SPACE AT GCMS

Imagine 200 students ranging in age from 10 - 14, using the space shown above to “play” at recess.

This space includes 20 swings, a spider climber, 4 basketball hoops, and a gaga ball pit with pea gravel (instead of a solid surface).  This space also contains ZERO structures that are ADA accessible or designed to be inclusive for students of all needs and abilities.

These existing structures do not meet the needs of our student body in terms of options provided for the number of students using the space at any given recess, and more importantly, in providing options for our students with disabilities and special needs.

The School Administration at Glacier Creek Middle School believes in the power of play and feels it’s time that we make it a priority to build a playground that meets the needs of the GCMS student body.  Physical play is vital to adolescent development, health and well-being.  The PTO has partnered with Admin to make the dream of playground expansion a reality.
