Science has shown that play is very productive for humans at any age; we need play to keep our brains flexible, ward off depression, sustain optimism, and sharpen our social-emotional skills.”

2024-2025 GCMS Playground Expansion

In an effort to support the mental and physical health and well-being of the students of Glacier Creek Middle School, we are embarking on a journey toward a substantial playground expansion.  To address the need for more play options for our large student body and the need for inclusive and accessible options, we have developed the following project plans.

Phase 1 - 2700 sq. ft. Playground Ridge Expansion

(not pictured - New ADA Pathway from parking lot to red rubber surfacing)

The Ridge expansion consists of two sections.  The "ninja warrior" section consists of 12 connected play components that can be use in an Obstacle Course format.  The Integrated play section invites children of all needs and abilities to play together in an area that includes a large climber/spinner, chair spinner, and wheelchair accessible hand cycle and drums.  This section also includes 1000 square feet of Poured-In-Place Rubber surfacing to provide flat and stable surfacing for greater accessibility.

Phase 2 - “Inclusive Orbit” Installation/Resurface and Replace Gaga Ball Pit

The Inclusive Orbit is a wheelchair accessible spinner that allows for integrated play for children with a wide range of abilities.   This phase would replace our current wooden Gaga Ball Pit (which is warped on many sides) with a Wheelchair accessible Pit with a door and would replace the existing pea gravel surfacing.  This whole section would include 1800 square feet of Poured In Place Rubber Surfacing for full accessibility for all.
